The five-year IDIQ contract, which is the first of its kind awarded by DOI, will allow DOI to deploy contractor-operated and maintained small unmanned air systems ("UAS") that are ready when needed to support wildland fire operations, search and rescue, emergency management and other resource missions in the Continental United States and Alaska.

Aviation news leaders Victoria News and Aviation Tribune headlined Bridger Aerospace's deal to add up to five modified Viking CL-415EAF "Water Bombers" to the fleet by the firefighting season of 2020. The original LAAM aircraft will be modified by Viking in Calgary, Canada to meet Bridger's specific firefighting and air-attack needs, providing the next generation in aerial firefighting techniques.

Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Safety, Resource Protection, and Emergency Services Harry Humbert identified Bridger Aerospace and partner Ascent Vision as one of four new contracts to provide on-call support for the Department of Interior's small drone needs, "As the recognized leader in the application of unmanned aircraft technology in natural resources, wildland fire, and land management applications, we look forward to supporting our Interior bureaus’ needs and those of our interagency partners with this first-ever contracted small-unmanned aircraft systems resource. This strategic contract capability compliments the division and tactical level capabilities of our fleet vertical take-off and landing fixed wing and quadcopter small-unmanned aircraft systems, providing critical enhancements to firefighter safety and effectiveness."
